A Bali Yoga Retreat Is The Best Thing You'll Do All Year. Here's Why
Whether you are going on a yoga retreat with your spouse, solo, or with friends, there is no doubt that you will return feeling refreshed and better than before you left. It's more than just the yoga. It's about being able to unplug, focus inwardly and deepen your practice, while also taking in Bali's sights and sounds.
You've probably heard by now how great yoga is for you, but are you wondering if maybe it's not too good to be true?
Does it really offer the benefits that have been claimed or have you heard things that make you wonder if it's just a fad or the latest fitness craze? Even though there has been immense growth in the number of people doing yoga, it really isn't new.
In fact, in India alone, an estimated 200 million people do yoga. And Bali is one of the most popular places for people to travel to for their yoga retreats and training.
What Is Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient practice that unifies the mind and body. Through a series of postures, it stretches your body, toning your muscles, and uses deep breathing to relax the mind.
There are a number of different poses in yoga that work on specific areas of your body. Many people use yoga as a form of exercise to improve their fitness and flexibility level.
Yoga and Coliving
You’re probably not here because you love Bali. You’re here because you want to be a better version of yourself. Nothing wrong with that—Bali is definitely the place to do it.
Yoga and coliving are a match made in heaven. Coliving is by nature an alternative lifestyle, just like yoga, so it makes sense that the two could finally be paired together.
The beauty of yoga and coliving is that most of your fellow mates will be yogis themselves, so you’re bound to meet some interesting people while practicing.
A Special Ashtanga Yoga Retreat in Bali
As you may already know, yoga is a holistic practice that involves asanas, breathing exercises and meditation. The word itself comes from a Sanskrit root meaning “to unite” or “to yoke” and refers to the uniting of body, mind and spirit.
Ashtanga yoga is an ancient system of yoga which was first written down by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. It was brought to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India (1915-2009).
Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches in relation to Patanjali’s eight-fold path described in the Yoga Sutras. It has come to be known as a rhythmic flowing sequence of postures in which each movement is synchronised with breath to create heat within the body for purification and detoxification.
The difference between Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga lies in their structure; Hatha Yoga can consist of any number of yoga poses whereas Ashtanga is divided into 6 series each with a set group of poses that cumulatively develop strength, grace and flexibility while cleansing the body through sweat and focusing on connecting breath with movement.
