Meet our chef Nikki
We would like you to meet the chef from our vegan Ubuntu Café - Nikki, who is also a yoga teacher at Ubuntu Bali.
Nikki has been a dedicated vegan for over 12 years, a lifestyle choice inspired by her journey through raw food and detox training. “I simply didn’t feel like eating meat anymore after my training and doing juice fasts and cleansing,” she explains. Her plant-based diet aligns with her desire to connect with nature and minimize her environmental impact.
Cooking is more than a skill for Nikki, it’s her love language. “I find joy in cooking and sharing my food with others, especially when it supports their health and well-being,” she says. For nearly a year now, Ubuntu Vegan Café has been her platform to share nutritious and delicious meals.
Nikki’s approach to cooking is deeply influenced by her roots. Growing up in a village, she learned the value of using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. “We would cook whatever we grew in our backyard or foraged from nearby forests,” she recalls. Even after moving to the city, she remained committed to sourcing fresh produce from traditional markets.
For Nikki, cooking is a form of meditation and self-love. She draws inspiration from the ingredients themselves, creating simple dishes that highlight natural flavors and nutrients. Her favorites to prepare? Superfood smoothies and snack bars. “They’re both tasty and nutritious, and I have so much fun experimenting with superfoods—just like concocting a medicine, but we it delicious!”
Nikki encourages others to embrace the abundance of plant-based foods rather than focusing on restrictions. “Vegan food doesn’t have to be complicated. Keep it simple with whole foods, and have fun with the endless variety we can enjoy!”
