Oceanic Body
DAY of the WEEK: Tuesday
DATE: 25th March
TIME: 4.00pm - 5.30pm
PRICE: Regular: 200k Kitas: 150k
This is a contemporary dance class inspired by Indonesian coastal culture and traditional dance—an art form for emotional expression and honoring the ocean. Through breath-led motion, elemental embodiment, and creative exploration, we’ll explore how the tides mirror our emotions—rising, chaos, softening, and surrendering. This practice invites us to move with fluidity, release tension, and let the body express what words cannot.
Just as the ocean carries both calm and turbulence, this practice invites emotional release and transformation. Movement becomes a way to surrender, express, and reconnect with the self—mirroring the ever-changing sea. Let's explore a fluid language of dance that is both ancestral and deeply personal.
Together, we will discover:
Breath-Led Movement – Flow with the rhythm of your inhale and exhale, letting breath shape your movement like the rise and fall of the tide.
Embodying Nature & Emotion – Express emotions through the energy of waves, wind, and tides, moving with both strength and surrender.
Creative Expression & Release – Use dance as a space for creativity and emotional depth, exploration of your body landscape, allowing water’s fluid nature to inspire movement and storytelling.
Move, feel, come back to your body, expand your breath, and reinterpret our connection with nature. 🌊
The Teacher
Trina Acacia is a professional Indonesian dancer, diver, choreographer, and ocean artist whose life journey has been deeply intertwined with both dance and the ocean. She began dancing at the age of eight, performing for community and ceremonial events. The teenage Trina made appearances a few times on commercial TV programs in Jakarta, where she learned to navigate the challenges of being an artist while exploring modern dance.
However, due to lack of support from her loved ones, she decided to study Philosophy at the University of Indonesia instead of pursuing formal art education. Yet, she met more artistic individuals at the university who brought her into the creative orbit of theater and contemporary dance, reigniting her artistic spirit.
Trina’s connection to nature, particularly the ocean, became a defining aspect of her work. The ocean, she says, is her greatest teacher—offering strength during her darkest moments. She began incorporating site-specific dance research into her practice, interpreting the patterns of marine life and the rhythms of the tides through her movements.
Diving for ocean conservation and artistic research became an integral part of her life. Underwater, she discovered profound parallels between dance and diving: both are silent expressions of energy, emotion, and breath. Her exploration of marine creatures’ movements inspired her to see dance as more than just an art form—it is a conversation between the body and the environment.
Trina’s passion is to use her art to raise awareness for ocean conservation, fostering a deeper connection between humans and nature. Her belief that "nature is not just our muse, but our teacher" underscores her commitment to merging creativity with advocacy. Together with her project, @surya.laluna, she creates a platform to learn and protect the ocean through art. She conducts site specific dance research, beach cleanups, and ocean education.
Join this workshop, and let Trina guide you to the ocean's rhythm and the body's wisdom come together to tell stories of healing, connection, and resilience.
