A Note from Ubuntu Yoga Eco Retreat: Our Commitment to Sustainable Living

Buddha Room - Ubuntu Yoga Eco Retreat

Greetings from the heart of Bali,
Located within the lush surroundings of this stunning island, we at Ubuntu Yoga Eco Retreat wish to share a glimpse of our everyday commitment to Mother Earth.

Tackling Plastic Consumption
With studies like the one in Science Advances revealing alarming figures like 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste produced since the 1950s, we felt the urgency to act. We've consciously decided to avoid single-use plastics. Instead of offering miniature plastic toiletries, straws, and bottles, we provide our guests with durable cutleries, chinaware, glasses, and metal straws. Our refill stations are also there to ensure you stay hydrated without the guilt of plastic. Moreover, we encourage our guests to bring their own bags, a simple gesture that can significantly decrease plastic consumption.

Mindful Water Usage
Bali's looming water crisis, underscored by studies from journals like Environmental Research Letters, has only strengthened our resolve to be water-wise. While the water from our room taps is filtered, it's reserved for non-drinking purposes. We've adopted efficient laundry and cleaning methodologies using eco-friendly products. We also believe in the power of collective actions. Something as basic as turning off the tap while brushing or soaping can have a profound impact when practiced by many.

Embracing Energy Efficiency
Our retreat is illuminated with energy-efficient LED bulbs. According to the International Energy Agency, such lighting significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional bulbs. We urge our guests to turn off the air conditioning when it's not in use and to unplug devices that aren't needed, further supporting our energy-saving endeavors.

Holistic Waste Management
Waste management is more than just disposal for us. We have bins designated for organic, paper, and glass/plastic/metal waste, ensuring that each item is appropriately recycled or decomposed. We hope our guests find it intuitive and join us in this mission.

Celebrating Our Local Community
Ubuntu is not just a retreat; it's a family and community. Pak Wanda, who lovingly tends to his permaculture garden, and Dewa, greeting the day with his fresh coconuts, embody the spirit of our local community. Together, we hope to paint a picture of a Bali that is sustainable, community-driven, and vibrant.

We, at Ubuntu Yoga Eco Retreat, believe that sustainability isn't just a buzzword but a way of life. Our practices, though simple, reflect our commitment to this belief. When you choose to stay with us, you're not just opting for a serene getaway but joining hands with a philosophy that values every small step towards a better tomorrow. We're in this together, and we thank you for being a part of this journey.
